CNG cars are getting more popular every day. However, maintenance of CNG cars can be pretty demanding as they require additional care and servicing. This blog discusses some tips for the maintenance of a CNG vehicle that may come in handy.
Get a clean air filter.
The primary reason that many people switch to CNG cars is mileage. A dirty air filter can significantly reduce the car’s mileage, thus defeating the purpose. Therefore, it is important to check your car’s air filter from time to time and clean it regularly to ensure smooth operation. At PLS automobile, we recommend replacing your car’s air filter every 5000kms to yield the best results.
Get regular servicing
It’s important to get your CNG vehicle repaired to prevent the troubles caused due to the wear and tear of the components. The servicing includes inspecting, cleaning, or replacing the throttle body, reducer filter cartridge, low-pressure filter cartridge, and air filter.
Check the spark plugs.
The spark plugs for CNG cars are significantly different from those meant to be used with petrol cars as the gap between the actual spark source, and the plug’s metallic tip is shorter in CNG. Therefore, you should be extra careful while choosing the spark plugs that are put inside your CNG vehicle. It is advised that you replace the spark plug every 10,000kms or six months.
Check the CNG tank
Inspecting the CNG tank frequently is another critical step for your vehicle maintenance. It is recommended to avoid driving if your CNG tank is running low. Running a CNG vehicle on a close to empty cylinder might increase the pressure on the valves, which in the worst case, can even lead to an explosion.
Check for CNG leaks.
CNG leaks can be fatal, and therefore, it is extremely important to detect and repair these gas leaks. However, if you come across any sign of leakage in your vehicle, don’t panic and
manually shut your cylinder’s outlet valve so that no gas flows out of the cylinder and reach out to an automobile servicing center.
CNG Leakage Testing is made mandatory by the government, and it is to be done periodically every quarter or every three months. At PLS automobile, we provide safe and efficient CNG leakage testing to highly standardized leak detectors and other equipment to check for faults.
Get your CNG cylinder hydro tested
CNG cylinder hydro testing is also made mandatory by the government, which must be done periodically every three years. Getting the CNG Cylinder of your vehicle tested is important because it reduces the number of breakdowns. In addition, the testing process increases the engine performance and gas capacity by removing the oil building and fixing gas leakages.
Renew CNG compliance plate
A CNG compliance plate helps you improve your CNG vehicle ownership experience. A compliance plate is a certificate that your vehicle earns after it clears the CNG cylinder leakage testing. To procure a CNG compliance plate, get your vehicle checked by a government-certified agency. If you don’t have a renewed CNG compliance plate, you may end up paying hefty fines.
Use the auto mode
The auto mode allows your vehicle’s Electronic Control Module to decide when to switch to CNG. So when the engine gets hot enough, the ECU automatically switches the fuel option to CNG. This helps in enhancing the engine’s life.
Park in a shade
Whenever possible, only opt for covered parking for your CNG vehicle. It is because the CNG gas contains gasoline, which evaporates faster than diesel or petrol. A shaded parking spot will prevent evaporation and ensure that the tank won’t empty out quickly. Parking in a sad also keeps the car chambers cool from within.
